Proof-of-Concept

Today marks the end of the proof of concept. To honour the KUKA iiwa we have released an open-source python-based ROS module on GitHub. The iiwapy module offers users of a KUKA iiwa a python API to control the robot using sunrise controller kinematics. In addition, here is a video demo of using the KUKA iiwa with a standard MoveIt! generated joint stream. We haven’t shared a video using the iiwapy module; instead we encourage users to try it.

Force Control

A key technology stream that is being utilised at Rivelin Robotics is force control; this robotic control method facilitates robotic finishing of AM parts as it allows the disadvantages of robots, compared with traditional machining centres, to be overcome. The fundamental philosophy of force control, is that the end-effector control system is designed not to track a motion trajectory alone, but rather to include motion tracking and mechanical impedance regulation. This offers the robot a holistic view of the process, or in other words ‘perception’.

Old offices

A look back at our old office at the Advanced Manufacturing Park, Sheffield, England. We are lucky to be part of a world-renowned park with companies like Boeing, Rolls-Royce, Airbus and McLaren. Some of the office toys include one of our R&D cells:
